How it works
Your browser cannot see its own public IP address. The server reads the source address of your request and returns it, then looks it up like IP Lookup does: the registry that holds the address block (RDAP), the network that routes it (BGP via Team Cymru), reverse DNS and an approximate city-level location from the DB-IP Lite database, shown on a world map.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my IP differ from my computer’s network settings?
Your device usually has a private address (such as 192.168.x.x) behind a router that uses NAT. Websites only see the router’s public address.
How accurate is IP geolocation?
Usually accurate to the country and often the region, but city-level results can be wrong. An IP address does not reveal a street address.
