Not proof of identity. User-agent strings can be changed by any browser, extension or script, and modern browsers deliberately reduce or freeze parts of them. Treat these results as hints only.

Analyze a user-agent string

Paste any UA string, e.g. from server logs. Analysis runs locally in your browser.

How it works

Everything runs in your browser. The page reads navigator.userAgent and, where supported, User-Agent Client Hints, then matches known browser, engine and OS tokens. Nothing is sent to a server.

A typical string such as Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/129.0.0.0 Safari/537.36 contains historical compatibility tokens (Mozilla/5.0, like Gecko, Safari) that almost every browser includes. The parser looks for the most specific token first — for example Edg/ before Chrome/ — to tell Chromium-based browsers apart.

Since 2022 Chromium browsers send a reduced user agent: minor version numbers are zeroed and the OS version is frozen. More precise data is only available through User-Agent Client Hints, which this page requests with navigator.userAgentData.getHighEntropyValues() when supported.

Frequently asked questions

What is a user-agent string?

A short text header that browsers send with every request to describe the browser, rendering engine and operating system. Servers use it for compatibility and statistics.

Can a user agent be trusted?

No. Any client can change or fake it, and modern browsers deliberately reduce the detail they report. Treat it as a hint, never as proof of identity or device.

Why does my OS version look outdated?

Browsers now “freeze” some values to reduce fingerprinting. For example, Chrome reports Windows NT 10.0 on both Windows 10 and 11, and macOS as 10_15_7 regardless of the real version.

What are User-Agent Client Hints?

A newer mechanism in Chromium-based browsers that exposes browser details through a JavaScript API and HTTP headers, with more precise values available only on request.
