Check a page

The HTML is read as the server delivers it; tags added later by JavaScript are not seen.

Share preview

Fetch a page or paste its HTML to preview how the link looks when shared.

How it works

When a link is shared, the app fetches the page and reads its Open Graph (og:*) and Twitter Card (twitter:*) meta tags to build a preview card. This checker reads the same tags, shows which values a preview would use (including fallbacks to the page title and description) and flags missing or invalid ones.

The essential tags

  • og:title, og:description, og:image and og:url define the card; og:type is usually website or article.
  • og:image must be an absolute URL. Add og:image:width, og:image:height and og:image:alt.
  • twitter:card chooses the layout on X/Twitter (summary_large_image for a big image); other twitter:* tags fall back to Open Graph.

The previews here are generic illustrations; each app styles and crops cards in its own way.

Safeguards & responsible use

  • Fetches only public http(s) pages with SSRF protection and size limits; images are not downloaded by the server.
  • Images in the preview load only after you click, directly from the site that hosts them.
  • Pasted HTML is parsed in your browser and not uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

What image size works best?

1200 × 630 pixels (about 1.91:1) works for large preview cards in most apps. Use an absolute https URL and keep the file under a few megabytes.

I changed my tags but the old preview still appears.

Apps cache previews, sometimes for days. Most platforms offer a way to refresh a link’s preview; otherwise wait for the cache to expire.

Do I need both Open Graph and Twitter tags?

Open Graph tags are read by most apps, including X/Twitter as a fallback. Add twitter:card to choose the card layout there.
