Ping
AvailableCheck whether a host responds to ICMP echo requests and measure round-trip latency and packet loss from our servers.
Ping
Result
How it works
ICMP echo requests are sent from our server to the target. The time until each reply arrives is the round-trip time; missing replies count as packet loss.
Safeguards & responsible use
- Server-side input validation: only syntactically valid hostnames and IP addresses are accepted.
- Private, loopback, link-local and reserved address ranges are blocked to protect internal infrastructure.
- Per-client rate limiting and request timeouts.
- A small, fixed packet count per request.
Frequently asked questions
Does a failed ping mean the host is down?
Not necessarily. Many firewalls block ICMP, so a host can be online and serving websites while ignoring ping.
What is a good ping time?
It depends on distance. Under 50 ms is typical within a region; intercontinental paths often exceed 100 ms.
