SPF Lookup

Domain name

Open in terminal
Try:

How it works

The server reads the domain’s TXT records, finds the one starting with v=spf1 and recursively evaluates include and redirect mechanisms, counting DNS lookups against the RFC 7208 limit of 10.

Safeguards & responsible use

  • Only public domain names are accepted; internal names (.local, .internal, …) are rejected.
  • Queries go to public resolvers, never to internal DNS.
  • Per-client rate limiting and query timeouts.

Frequently asked questions

Can a domain have two SPF records?

No. Multiple v=spf1 records cause a PermError and SPF fails. Merge them into one record.

What does “too many DNS lookups” mean?

SPF evaluation may trigger at most 10 DNS lookups (include, a, mx, ptr, exists, redirect). Beyond that receivers return PermError.
